Resume Tips for Job and internship

Friends, if you're a fresher or you have just started working then making this document is a must for you. You can't avoid it, yes, it's a bit scary. Making a resume seems complicated, you could get confused about what to write, especially if you no achievements as yet, then you just keep thinking what to write. But there are step by step ways and by observing them, you can write a brilliant poweful resume.

1. OPEN GOOGLE DOCS

open Google Docs

Google Docs, we will work on Google docs. I'm a big fan of  Google docs, you can use Microsoft Word, any other word template or any other word processing software. For this posts we will use Google Docs. when you open Google Docs, then on the very top you will be able to see templates, one of them would be resume. Click on it and right now in front of you, you have your resume's structure. Every section that you have to fill in so that your resume become a powerful winning and shortlisted resume.

2.NAME

Your name should always be in the biggest and the most legible words, please write it .

3. SHORT DESCRIPTION

short description or profile of yours. Let's pause this Friends always remember that whenever you have to write a summary, we can always do that only after fully watching or writing it. So, if you start with a summary only, you will be lost or would be meaningless but because you would be in pressure, you will still write it. So, we will come back to it.

4.CONTACT DETAILS

Many people make many mistakes in this. First, I do not need you address, I won't come to your house neither am I going to write a letter to you, If I would need your address, I will ask for it. you will write just 3 or 4 things.

Number 1, your mobile number so that people can reach you.

Number 2, your email address, not the kind of email address which says juniorboy1908@gmail.com, lovelyprincess@gmail.com, no, please do not add 123456789. It would be better if you use less number and more words so that it becomes easy, so a professional email.

Number 3, LinkedIn profile. If you don't have it Make it now because LinkedIn profile is your entry towards getting shortlisted and the world today. You can't ignore it, at some point it will become more important than your resume, if not already. So, LinkedIn profile update.

Number 4, If you have one, you website or some online identity, we will come back to this point.

5. EXPERIENCE

Your experience. If you are not a fresher, I'll talk about freshers later, if you are not a fresher, you've worked before or you are still working, then your experience is an advertisement for all the good things that you have done while at work. Write it in anti-chronological. This means that, start with what you are doing now and then go down towards the first job that you did  Start with now, not your first job. There are 3-4 components, first your company's name, second, you designation, third, your duration, in duration there is no need to write the date, only the month and the year are enough, 07/2010 or July' 15 is enough. And if you're still working, then you can write July' 15 to present which means that you are still there. It is always helpful, especially if your company is not famous, then give a one-line description about that company  which won't focus on what the company does, instead it will focus on how good, big, great and unique the company is. why? Because the recruiter wants to see what is so different and unique about that company, that he should take interest in it. USP, whatever it is, if that company is a start-up then the fact that its founders are from good institutes, then mention that. If that company has taken a funding, then mention that. If it is an offline company and it has many stores, then mention how many stores are there. and countries, then mention that, Anything that establishes the size and the scale of the company that you are in, focus on that because that will set the context. Next comes your work.

6.ACHIEVEMENTS

Achievements, I have used the word achievement not work profile. I have seen thousands of resumes, in the past go through each one of them and this was the biggest mistake people made that they made it in to a work profile. This means that they wrote what they used to do; they wrote what was their job profile. I am not interested in that, I don't want to know that you did sales in sales or your did customer care in customer care or you did marketing in marketing, this is obvious. I want to know how good and polished you were at that work. So, please don't share you job profile. Don't write, what I want to know is , how good were you at it. I will give you an example, let's take sales since sales is a very applicable function. The two options and job profile and job achievement.
Job profile-was responsible for B2B sales for the company's technology division.
This sounds like a reasonably accurate statement and you will see it many resumes.
But I want to changes it to make it into an achievement, then I will write- achieved 110% of the target in the B2B technology division of the company, closing 37 new Clients contributing to 20% additional revenue.

Suddenly, the game has changed, where you were an in charge of the B2B Sales or a part of the B2B sales team and now you have become a Rockstar salesperson. That's the difference. Always think that, achievement part, don't ignore it, maximum time should be spent on this.

7.EDUCTION

Your education, Very clearly in education, if you work somewhere then write your recent education, name your school and college, degree, location more branches, and year of passing or graduating. No need to mention your marks, if they are amazing, definitely mention them but if they aren't that good or they are mediocre or if you feel that they are not good enough then leave it, no one focuses on that. Again, starting with the latest to the earliest. If it has been 3-4-5 years then no need ot 10th and 12th marks, no need to write that you participated in an elocution contest in 7th standard or you participated in a race and stood 3rd or 4th, we have outgrown all that.

8.EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

And finally, you extracurricular or additional information. I don't know why, but many people write their work achievements in it. 'Was promoted in the first year itself, was awarded the best employee of the month, best employee of the year'. Why aren't you writing this in work experience. If I ask you where would you like to mention your most important work achievement, so will those be mentioned at the end? No, if in my hands, I would start with them because that is the best thing that I can state. So, please mention it in you work experience section. Your additional information should be about your extracurricular efforts, your hobbies, something that shows that you are a team player, you are a quick learner, you have multiple interests, you have multiple internships, whatever the case maybe because that tells me that this person has a well rounded personally or profile.

9.SKILLS

Skills section is important because at this point you will refer to the JD, the job description, you are making a resume for the job you are applying for and that is perhaps the most important point to start with. You must make a different resume for each job. You will have to do this hard work, you will have to be that passionate because every job has different demands. on that. if you are a fresher, then you don't have any experience, so instead of starting with work experience, you start with education. Education will be your first section and then we will say that same things, which school or college, which degree, year of graduation and location if it is necessary. And then you will talk about things that you did during college or school which can maybe help in making you a good professional. Internships that you did, mini projects or academic projects that you did, important class assignments, if you participated in any festival and played a leadership role or that, 'I am a team player, I am a fast learner, I am a committed individual, I am someone who is  dedicated, very very studious, very disciplined, all those things that you can showcase, please do, don't stop .

10. SUMMARY

Let's talk about summary. Summary is your summary. It is almost like if a person doesn't know anything about you, haven't read much about you, he can read only those main points that you have written under your name, then will they want to meet you or not. And in this case your summary will never be the same. Just like you will change you resume according do the job description, similarly you will change you summary based on the job description. Doesn't fly. you will have to write something which is a summary of you resume, but the choice of words will be from the job description, not that will come with up.
